Location

How to Get There
This hike is located near Roosevelt, AZ.

To get to the trailhead: from the Phoenix area, take US-60 East towards Globe. Just after Miami and before globe, take HWY-88 (or 188 depending on the sign) left towards Roosevelt. After 20 miles on this paved road, turn left on the graded and well signed FR449. There is lots of private property in this area, so please respect that property and follow the signs so hiker access isn't threatened. After 1.9 miles on FR449, take a right to stay on on FR449. After 3.2 miles of driving from the highway, you'll reach a loop and the well signed Tule trailhead.

Be Aware of
The trail can be faint at times and a bit overgrown in places. You'll be happier if you wear some hiking pants.

Hike along the Tule trail in the Superstition Wilderness in Arizona.

Sometimes we look for hikes just to get away from everyone and everything. The Tule trail is a good destination if your goal is desert solitude.

From the signed trailhead, follow the rocky trail into the Superstition Wilderness. The trail is marked pretty well by cairns, which is a good thing as sometimes it can be quite faint. The rocky trail smooths out after about 0.5 miles and becomes easier on the ankles. You'll be walking through the Sonoran desert here, along with the typical desert cacti like Saguaro and Cholla. After about 1.2 miles of hiking, you'll reach a large canyon wash with a corral at the bottom. Resist the urge to hike up the wash here and instead head to the opposite bank of the wash to the Superstition Wilderness boundary sign which marks the continuation of the trail. After 5.1 miles of total hiking, you'll reach the junction with the Two Bar Ridge trail, which makes for a nice turn around point. We turned around after about 3 miles of hiking one way mostly because we were bored.

Wherever you decide to turn around, this is an out and back, so you'll return the way you came.

Return by the same route.
