To get to the trailhead: From Holbrook area, take I-40 East to exit 311 (24 miles). The North entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park is here. The trail head starts at the Rainbow Forest Museum parking lot, which is about 26 miles from the north entrance. After parking, head back to the Petrified Forest Road and cross it. Start walking on the road back over the dry wash (away from the exit to the park). The signed trailhead will be on your right. 

To get to the south entrance to the Petrified Forest National Park, take HWY-180 south-east 19 miles to the South entrance of the park. The trail head starts at the Rainbow Forest Museum parking lot at the south entrance.
