If walking up a narrow canyon to a waterfall appeals to you, Tuckup canyon is your hike. This hike is accessed from a river rafting trip on the Colorado River. Tuckup Canyon is located at river mile 165 on river right. Be Aware of: Boulder hopping. This is an easy hike. 35 yr old Recommendation: This is a nice short canyon and an easy walk. If we had more time, I would have liked to explore further. Elevation change: Not much. Distance: 0.6 miles round trip (to the first waterfall and back) Time: It took us about 1.0 hours total. Time of year: Spring, Summer, Fall. Solitude: Good. Not many trips stop at Tuckup Canyon. Map: Click here for map Tuckup canyon is not typically visited, as it is usually bypassed in order to spend time in Havasupai canyon. However in cooler weather you may not want to get wet in Havasupai, so this is a nice (although short) alternative hike. After parking at the camp, simply boulder hop up canyon. The canyon narrows up pretty quickly and soon dead ends at a nice waterfall after about 0.3 miles of hiking. There is a way to continue up canyon if you have a rope and rock climbing skills. If you stop about 100 yards short of the fall and look to your left (looking up canyon) you can see a route that will take you around the fall. We didn't have the time to explore this so we turned around at the fall.
