If walking up a canyon to some nice narrows appeals to you, National canyon is your hike. This hike is accessed from a river rafting trip on the Colorado River. National Canyon is located at river mile 167 on river left. Be Aware of: Boulder hopping. This is an easy hike. 35 yr old Recommendation: This is a nice short canyon and an easy walk. If you can, camp at the National beach. Camping here gives you lots of time to enjoy the canyon. Elevation change: Not much. Distance: 1.0 miles round trip (to the water blockage and back) Time: It took us about 1.5 hours total. Time of year: Spring, Summer, Fall. Solitude: Excellent. Not many trips stop at National Canyon unless they are camping. Map: Click here for map If you are looking for a nice camp with a built in hike, I'd recommend National canyon. Heading back into the canyon from the beach reveals some very nice narrows and seasonal water. About 0.5 miles back into the canyon are the best narrows. If you're in the swimming mood, you can get by the first obstacle with a bit of swimming and bouldering. Afterwards is prettier, with limestone narrows and a waterfall, but I couldn't get anyone to join me on a cold afternoon.
[Getting interesting]
