If walking up a wide open canyon to water feeding seeps appeals to you, Mohawk canyon is your hike. This hike is accessed from a river rafting trip on the Colorado River. Mohawk Canyon is located at river mile 172 on river left. Be Aware of: Boulder hopping. This is a moderate difficulty hike. 35 yr old Recommendation: This seldom visited canyon is well worth the stop. The wide open hiking alternating with the creek walking is a nice change of pace. Elevation change: 300 ft gradual gain. Distance: 2.4 miles round trip (to the seep spring and back) Time: It took us about 2.5 hours total. Time of year: Spring, Winter, Fall. Solitude: Excellent. Not many trips stop at Mohawk Canyon. Map: Click here for map This is a good cold weather hike, as Mohawk canyon can be wide open (for a canyon) compared to the narrow hikes typical of this area. There are some nice scenic hiking to be enjoyed while walking next to the creek. Much of this hike is boulder hopping up the canyon. A good turn around point is some rock seeps that feed the creek. The seeps are about 1.2 miles from the Colorado River on the left side of the canyon.
