If walking up a canyon to some nice narrows appeals to you, Fern Glen canyon is your hike. This hike is accessed from a river rafting trip on the Colorado River. Fern Glen Canyon is located at river mile 168.5 on river right. Be Aware of: Boulder hopping, scrambling. This is an easy hike. 35 yr old Recommendation: A quick hike to a peaceful and scenic set of falls. Elevation change: Not much. Distance: 1.0 miles round trip (to the travertine fall and back) Time: It took us about 1.0 hours total. Time of year: Spring, Summer, Fall. Solitude: Excellent for us, but usually Fern Glen is a popular stop. Either crowds or solitude possible here. Map: Click here for map Fern Glen canyon has a nice mixture of flowers, ferns, narrows, and waterfalls which make it a popular stop. The hike takes a bit of boulder hopping and scrambling, but to get to the travertine falls is not too difficult.
