If a short, easy hike up to a picturesque waterfall appeals to you, Elves Chasm is your hike. This hike is accessed from a river rafting trip on the Colorado River. Elves Chasm is located at river mile 116 on river left. Be Aware of: Some scrambling. This is an easy hike. 35 yr old Recommendation: You have to stop here. Many believe this is the prettiest waterfall in the Grand Canyon and it would be tough to argue. Elevation change: About 100 ft of boulder hopping and scrambling. Distance: 0.25 miles round trip (to Elves Chasm and back) Time: It took us about 1.0 hours total. Time of year: Spring, Summer, Fall. Solitude: Not here. Elves Chasm is one of the most popular attractions on the river. Map: Click here for map A stop at Elves Chasm seems to be on every river trip checklist. It is easy to understand why. For a short walk, including some scrambling, you are rewarded with a lovely waterfall and pool great for swimming in the summer or admiring in the colder climates. Ferns and Redbud trees enclose the area, making a true desert oasis. Spend some time to enjoy this special place and when ready, return the way you came.
