The idea for a basketball team had been brewing in the mind of Dan Lohavanijaya and Scott Frankel for a long time. Dan, Scott and some of their friends had been playing pick up basketball games since they were in Junior High. Wouldn't it be fun to start a team to play in the city leagues?

The first game for the Weekend Warriors took place back in 1993 at the Anderson Jr. High in Chandler, Arizona. For the most part, the Weekend Warriors played like a team that had never been in an organized basketball game together. The first half featured many turnovers and few points. It turned into an epic game that featured a 10 point comeback with less than 3 minutes to go and two last second shots to put the game into two overtimes. After the second overtime, the Weekend Warriors finally lost, but a great tradition was born.
